Coeur d’Alene Lake and The History Behind Its Name
Coeur d’Alene Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in all of America. The amount of tourists alone that are attracted to this area speaks in volume of how amazing the Coeur d’Alene area is.
From some of my other blogs, you probably have picked up that I grew up in this area. My friends and I would spend most of our summer days cruising from lake to lake. While hanging out on the lakes, some of the activities included wake boarding, water skiing, inner tubing, jumping off cliffs, and simply just having a good time out in a boat. There is and was so many fun things to do, it is hard to list them all.
Today, however, I’m not going to talk as much about my experiences or memories on the lake. Instead, I’m going to give you guys a little history overview of the Coeur d’Alene area as a whole.
Ok, raise your hand if you have been to the CDA area and know how the city got it’s full name?
Yes, you are right. I cannot see you raising your hand. Just pretend I can see it for the sake of having a little fun.
Awesome! Some of you do, and some of you don’t know how Coeur d’Alene city got its name. Before I jump right into the history behind Coeur d’Alene and how its name came about, let me first tell you what the city has become and what it has grown too.
Years back the population was almost nothing in the Norther Idaho country (Coeur d’Alene). Over the years, however, more and more people started hearing about this little land of paradise. Most folks wouldn’t believe anyone because, in their mind, they were thinking “What the heck is in Idaho. Potatoes?”
This is a typical response; I receive even to this day of people that have not heard of the Coeur d’Alene area. However, the people that have heard of the area, rave how it’s one of the most amazing places on earth.
Many celebrities and well-known people now come to the Coeur d’Alene area with friends, family, and loved ones to have a relaxing fun time.
Barbara Walters left the CDA area stating Coeur d’Alene was, “A little slice of Heaven.”
Now that the secret is out about Coeur d’Alene, the population of the city continues to rise. With that being said, “Shhhhhhh.” Don’t tell anyone else. Haha we can’t let the whole world know, well at least not yet.
Ok, now I will tell you how the city of Coeur d’Alene developed it’s unique and attractive name.
In the late 18th and early 19th century, there were those French fur traders. These French traders where doing their business around the Northern Idaho land, when they stumbled upon a bunch of Native Americans who lived along the lakes and rivers of the Northern Panhandle. The Natives tribe was called Coeur d’Alene. Long story short, the name stuck and to this day we call this area by the lakes and rivers Coeur d’Alene.
Big shout out to all our Native American friends who paved the path and created such an amazing place to live. Thank you for discovering this beautiful land created by the big Man himself.
As the population of this area continues to grow, just remember where it began and who found this amazing place. Don’t take this area for granted, because who knows, in a few years it might be completely different.
Make sure you call up some of your good friends this weekend and get outside and enjoy this amazing place.
Next blog post is going to be about my dentist in CDA, which In my opinion is the best, however, I might just be a little bit bias haha. Have an amazing day and I’ll talk to you all soon.
