Dental care can start from the kitchen if we adopt a proper food style. In times of crisis, during which the checkups and dental prevention tend to diminish or become too burdensome on a family budget, we can help maintain healthy smiles by focusing on proper nutrition: prevention begins from here.
It is Dr. Mark Anderson, head of the dental nursing program at NIC college in Coeur d’Alene Idaho, who stresses the importance of each fruit and vegetable meal, rich in vitamins and minerals. There are indeed foods that can benefit the health of our teeth, and waiting for the Milan EXPO, whose theme will be devoted to food, we learn to feed to our teeth. How? With natural foods such as apples, strawberries, kiwi, broccoli and many others.
“In general, you should limit your intake of sweets, chewing gum and sugars.” says the average dentist.
Try eating the following types of foods:
Many foods like raw vegetables and fruits, have a cleansing function on the tooth surface and the tongue, thus reducing the risk of formation of plaque and bacteria. A very effective food in this sense is the Apple, to eat raw and unpeeled.
Coffee and tea are drinks that can leave dark spots on the dental enamel. However, every dentist knows that their patients will never give up these type of drinks. At least not in the near future.
Therefore, here is a list of what to include in your diet to improve your oral hygiene directly:
Contains catechin, a substance able to annihilate the oral bacteria responsible for plaque.
Apples, Celery and Carrots:
These foods can act as stain removers and natural whiteners because they increase the production of saliva, a natural self-cleaning agent. These items will also help in maintaining a fresh breath throughout the day, impairing the survival of bacteria responsible for bad breath.
Contains enzymes that help to whiten teeth. A trick you can do to keep your teeth white throughout the years is to rub squashed up strawberries on your teeth for about a minute. Do this over and over again for about a week and you will get a whitening effect.
This food is very rich in vitamin C. The natural ingredients in this fruit help to counteract problems to the gums. When you are consuming a lot of vitamin C, you make your teeth less susceptible to the action of bacteria that cause dental problems.
Almonds and walnuts:
Chew dried fruits helps remove stains and plaque from the surface of your teeth, but it is important not to abuse it because it is fat-rich foods.
Parsley, Sage, Mint:
You can chew on these leaves after meals to help keep your breath fresh. In addition, Sage possesses bleaching properties and is often also used in toothpaste. Rubbing your teeth from time to time with Sage can also assist in whitening your teeth. That is an awesome bonus to Sage. And we all know that Mint is going to keep that breath fresh.
The good natural whitening effect is particularly useful against yellowing caused by cigarette smoke. Because of the excessive acidity of the fruit, you should not abuse it, so you do not damage tooth enamel.
Eating these tiny little green trees will massage, clean and brush your teeth naturally. In my opinion, broccoli is one the healthiest and most beneficial fruits you can consume on a daily or weekly basis.
Everything I have mentioned, are just a few tips I am conscious of when going to prepare meals in the kitchen. If you apply some of these tips to your daily meal making, it will not only help your teeth, but it will also make you feel more energized. By applying all these things, you will also save money from having to go to a dentist regularly in the city of Coeur d’Alene.
However, I still recommend you go and check out a dentist to get those pearly whites clean and mean for all the summer fun that is right around the corner.
Living in Coeur d’Alene you just never know, when you’re going to meet a pretty lady or handsome gentleman.
CDA is my home, and I’m just trying to look out for my readers when it comes to your money maker aka “your face.”
With that being said, there could be some CDA Spring session specials going on. You’ll just have to go to Mr. Google himself and do a little searching around to see if you can find a CDA dental clinic tossing out some pre-summer discounts. You never know, it’s worth a shot.
However, if you don’t have the energy to do that, I would recommend going to Artisan Dental CDA. That guy is the man. He is humble, genuine, and extremely professional.
Dr. Nate Bourassa is one of the better dentists in town; that’s for sure. Not to mention he is an artist, which is super cool. His dentist office walls are just covered with his personal art. It’s pretty cool.
With that being said, that’s all I have for you guys this week. Stay tuned for some good words coming your way early next week. You’re not going to want to miss the next one.
